  • What will the room be like?
I work from a lovely treatment room in my home, which is accessed directly from the garden, via the garden gate. Inside, the massage table will be set up with clean towels. The table will be warmed if you like but if you’re a warm person, suffer from hot flushes or are pregnant, you may want the heated blanket switched off. The room also contains a bench where you can take your shoes off and pegs for your coat/umbrella. There's my desk and a window seat, where you’ll sit before your treatment to go through the consultation. The lighting will be lowered and soothing music will be played during your treatment to enable you to fully relax.
  • What happens during the consultation?
The consultation is a chance for us to have a chat before your treatment. I'll ask about any pain you are experiencing, your health and medical history, fitness and general wellbeing. There are a few things that mean I cannot massage you or require a doctor's note before I can. If you have any medical conditions, please make me aware of them in your enquiry form or over the phone before you come to see me. The consultation is free and takes place before your treatment starts. I will also check if there have been any changes before each subsequent treatment. The consultation does not eat in to your massage time, but you will need to allow a little extra time for your first appointment.
  • How do I decide which treatment is best for me?
If you’re not sure which treatment to choose, just drop me an email or give me a call. I can talk you through the different styles and what to expect.
  • What does holistic mean?
I describe my approach to massage as ‘holistic’, which means that I aim to treat your mental, spiritual and physical being. During the consultation I’ll ask about your stress levels, your diet and any exercise you do, your sleep patterns and if you have any mental health issues, so I can get a better picture of you as a whole.
  • What will happen during the massage?
After the consultation I will leave the room so you can get undressed (usually this means taking everything off except your underwear, but if that makes you uncomfortable for any reason then just let me know). Please also remove any jewellery, watches etc. You’ll get onto the massage table and cover yourself over with towels. I’ll knock before coming back in, to make sure you’re happy, and then will re-arrange the towels and turn on some soothing music. Each treatment is different so I will let you know how to position yourself on the table (face down, face up or on your side). I only uncover the area of your body I am working on. If there is somewhere you would like me to avoid, just let me know. Please rest assured that your modesty will be upheld and respected at all times. I use an organic base oil (usually sunflower or grape seed) with a few drops of organic essential oil. Halfway through the treatment I will ask you to turn over. I will hold the towels so that you will be covered whilst you do so and will re-adjust them afterwards. Once the treatment is over I will let you know and I will leave the room, giving you time to enjoy the relaxed feeling and slowly get up and dressed. I will then return with a glass of water for you, knocking first, after which we can talk about your treatment and how you feel, if you wish.
  • What oils do you use?
I use 100% organic massage oils. I tend to use sunflower as a base oil and may add a couple of drops of organic essential oil to add a pleasant aroma. If you have any allergies, please let me know during our consultation.
  • Should I talk during the massage?
It is completely up to you if you want to talk during your massage. Some people love to, others prefer an hour of silence and pure relaxation and I will respect either choice. If you have a question or would like me to increase or decrease the pressure then please do not hesitate to ask.
  • What if I fall asleep? Or Snore?
Dropping off to sleep and snoring is far more common than you think so please don’t be embarrassed! To me it says that you are fully relaxed, which can only be a good thing. If at the end of your treatment you are still asleep, I will gently wake you.
  • What if I need the toilet? Or am thirsty during the massage?
Please let me know if you need the toilet or some water during your massage. There is a bathroom just next to my treatment room and I can grab you a glass of water easily. If you are experiencing something that is stopping you from relaxing it is always best to deal with it so you can enjoy your treatment.
  • I haven’t shaved my legs!
I hear this all the time from women and the funny thing is, I really don’t care! I massage hairy legs on men all the time and won’t think any less of you if you haven’t had time to, or never shave your legs. As a massage therapist, I am much more interested in your muscles and joints!
  • Feeling emotional during or after your treatment
Sometimes people can feel very emotional during or after a massage and may feel a strong urge to cry. Massage can be a big release for those holding on to strong emotions. If you are feeling tired, anxious or depressed, let me know during your consultation and don't be embarrassed if you get emotional, it's perfectly natural.
  • I have a body issue I’m worried about
Most people have something that they don’t like about their body or feel insecure about – don’t worry, I have seen it all before. I love bodies in all their forms. At Wild Lotus you will be in a safe, non-judgmental environment and we can discuss those things if you wish to, or not. Everything you say to me will be kept confidential.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact me and ask.
